An important naval narrative of the American Revolution, describing the French fleet’s operations under Admiral d’Estaing in 1778–1779, including encounters with the British fleet and the attack on Savannah. The unidentified author, possibly Captain Walsh or the Chevalier O’Connor, appears to have served as an officer in d’Estaing’s squadron and is sharply critical of his commander’s conduct. A defense against these charges was published at Brussels in 1782.
