The Way to Santiago

NY: Reynal & Hitchcock, 1940. Hardcover. First Edition. Foxing to endpapers, else a very good hardback in a darkened and rubbed jcket that has a few small closed tears and some minor loss at the extremities. Very good. Item #70888

Thriller novel by the British born, Oxford educated writercentering on the investigation into the assassination of an American journalist that gradually exposes a sinister, Nazi-backed conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the Mexican government.

Calder-Marshall's novel gained lasting recognition in film history through Orson Welles, who spent years attempting to adapt it for the screen; despite completing a screenplay and planning a location shoot in Mexico, the project was ultimately abandoned by RKO Pictures, leaving it as one of Welles’s notable unrealized films.
