Item #56434 American Travelers Guide to Negro Monuments. American Oil Company.

American Travelers Guide to Negro Monuments

Chicago: American Oil Company, 1963. Paperback. 36pp. Tanned overall with some light rubbing and edgewear, else very good in publisher's stapled wraps. Very good. Item #56434

Published by the American Oil Company as their "contribution to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation" this brief guide lists 27 monuments, plaques, and other site related to African-American history throughout the United States.

Published in the midst of the Civil Rights movement, the guide itself isn't targeted to any one audience and at the time, travel to numerous of the areas listed would have been somewhat restricted because of still enforced Jim Crow laws.

An interesting item, ostensibly published as an educational piece, but as with anything of this nature, the final goal is to get you to exit through the gift shop, into an AOC gas station.

Price: $150.00
